Biomedical Research Grant
The objective of the Biomedical Research Grant Program is to foster scholarly and creative research by worthy investigators so that they can compete successfully for extramural research support. Targeted projects are: 1) research projects of investigators new to Indiana University School of Medicine who do not yet have extramural funding and who need support to acquire the preliminary data necessary to compete for extramural funding; 2) research projects of established investigators of Indiana University School of Medicine who are between funding periods from extramural sources. Awards are up to $50,000 and be limited to one (1) year duration.

Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD) Pilot & Feasibility Funding
A primary research-related activity of the CDMD's P&F program is to foster the development of new diabetes-related investigators and provide seed-support for innovative, high-risk projects. The program is particularly directed at new investigators and established investigators new to diabetes-related research. The program also considers established diabetes investigators pursuing high impact/high risk projects or projects that are a significant departure from their usual work. Work supported by these funds is expected to lead to submissions of major extramural grants. Awards are up to $45,000 and are limited to one (1) year duration

The Trailblazer Award RFA supports collaborative projects from community-university partners from a diverse array of geographical areas and campuses throughout the state that 1) implement research that has the potential to improve health or health care, 2) perform a needed evaluation of an existing health-related program. Projects must involve both an academic partner and a community partner on the project. Both partners must currently be working in an Indiana-based institution / organization. The RFA topic focus area rotates on an annual basis. Awards are up to $25,000 per project for one year

Core Pilot (Spring & Fall)
The goal of this RFA is to promote the use of technologies and expertise
afforded by the Indiana CTSI Core Facilities available at all partner
institutions. Successful proposals will demonstrate outstanding scientific
merit that can be linked to generating extramural funding or novel
intellectual property (IP). Success of the program will be viewed,
in part, by the fostering of new funded grants or providing significant
contributions to grant renewals. Funding is for utilization of
designated Indiana CTSI core facilities only.
Awards are up to $10,000 per project and projects are typically two years
in duration.

This pilot grant program seeks to foster the development of new
interdisciplinary research collaborations to identify innovations
addressing key global health challenges and improving health outcomes in
resource limited settings.
Awards are up to $20,000 in pilot funding per project for one year and up
to four meritorious projects are funded per year.

This RFA is a competitive opportunity in the form of an expense
account for use of core facility services. Funding is to be used
only for services provided by the core facilities. Applicants may
also participate as proposal reviewers. Post-doctoral fellows at
IU, IUSM, IUPUI, Purdue and Notre Dame are eligible.
Awards are up to $5,000 per proposal for a one-year project period.

Indiana Drug Discovery Alliance (IDDA)
The goal of this RFA is to provide seed funds and essential
consultation to support early stage development of therapeutics,
support new collaborations and/or the use of core facilities that
enable the translation of fundamental discoveries related to drug
discovery. Applicants must be full-time researchers (tenure,
tenure-track or research faculty) within the Indiana-CTSI
member institutions.
Funds are available up to $15,000 per project but budget and budget
justification are not required at the time of submission. Funded projects
will be developed in consultation with the internal advisory committee.

Indiana Traumatic Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Fund (Indiana State Department of Health)
The goal of this RFA is to foster and encourage research for the
prevention, treatment and cure of traumatic spinal cord and brain
injuries, including acute management, medical complications,
rehabilitative techniques, and neuronal recovery.
Awards are up to a maximum of $80,000 per year for two years (total of
$160,000) for basic science, up to a maximum of $100,000 per year for
two years (total of $200,000) for clinical research, and up to $100,000 for one year for early commercialization proposals targeting new technologies (i.e. diagnostic or therapeutic drugs / devices).

The CTSI Career Development Awards in Clinical-Translational Research are
designed to provide promising junior investigators with the
opportunity to be mentored in research-intensive multi-disciplinary
settings toward the goal of developing careers in
clinical-translational research. Applicants must meet specific
criteria (see full RFA for details).
Awards offer up to 75% salary support and $7,200 research funding
per year of award for research and training-related expenses. The
award is for 2 years (with 2nd year of funding contingent upon
satisfactory progress report).

Technology Enhancement Awards
Technology Enhancement Awards
The Indiana Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and Indiana
University School of Medicine (IUSM), through the office of the Associate
Dean for Entrepreneurship and its Industry Collaboration Portal, partner
with Indiana Center for Biomedical Innovation (ICBI) at
Indiana University Health (IUH) to fill a critical gap through the
Technology Enhancement Awards (TEA) program. The funds provided will
be used to support generation of technical data needed or required
to advance the technology to commercialization. Applicants must be
IUSM researchers and founders of startup companies seeking funds
to advance early stage technologies to commercialization.
Postdoctoral fellows are also eligible.
Awards are up to $50,000 for a period of 12 months and include mentorship
support through the ICBI Advisory Council and SPARK-Stanford partnership.

Project Development Teams
Project Development Teams
Project Development Teams (PDTs) are committees that consist of multidisciplinary researchers who assist investigators in developing ideas/hypotheses into well-designed translational research projects. The teams serve as "one stop shops" by providing investigators access to protocol development; pilot funding; biostatistics; IRB/regulatory and nursing support; facilitation of collaboration with other investigators and access to Core Resources on the IUPUI, IU, Purdue and Notre Dame campuses, all in one meeting. There are currently 8 PDTs within the Indiana CTSI: Community, Healthcare Delivery & Implementation Science; Concepts to Clinic; Human Health & Biomedical Technology; Networks, Complex Systems & Health; Obesity & Metabolism; Neuroscience & Cancer; Pediatric Sciences; Structural & Social Determinants of Health.
